Q: Thoughts on FFXIII and FFXIII-2
I get really bored by people jumping to point out all XIII’s flaws, I really enjoyed the game as a whole, although it has issues such as boring ‘side missions’ bad story telling (not being able to find out background through npcs and towns instead having to read the datalog). linear paths with little exploration but despite all that I loved the story and characters, the design was great and a lot of the world was enjoyable. I’d class XIII as one of my favourites.
although XIII-2, I disliked noel, terrible design (looks like aladdin turned gay) serah was mostly boring, I’m not one for family-sisterly-love lets do it for her storys, mostly found the whole monster ‘taming’ aspect to be unexplained and 90% of all monsters useless. the actual story was a convoluted mess, almost reaching the standards of kingdom hearts. time travel in stories handled well can be great (see: Lost) but here we have a cheap gameplay mechanic used to tell a tedious story hardly worth getting through, talking of tedious whoever designed those puzzles needs firing, at least this time we have some npcs and towns… exploration. although the amount of fetch quests made me suicidal. all in all it was almost bottom of my list of ratings when it comes to FF games, only on top of XII.
